West Vic’s ultimate playground guide: The best spots to take your kids

We’re talking mazes, flying foxes, spinning carousels and giant slides.

West Vic has no shortage of playgrounds to let the kids run ragged. If you’re travelling, or just looking for somewhere new to go, the Brolga has you covered with some suggestions. 

Lake Pertobe Adventure Playground

Spread across eight hectares, Warrnambool’s Lake Pertobe Adventure Playground has a maze, flying foxes and giant slides, as well as boat rides, mini golf and lots of shelter and picnic areas.

Colac Botanic Gardens Playground

Connected to Lake Colac’s walking tracks and the adjacent gardens, this playground is spread out, with plenty of swings, slides, spinners and flying foxes, plus free barbecues and nearby toilets.

Memorial Square Playground 

Rebuilt in 2022, the Memorial Square playground is situated in the middle of Colac, close to cafes and shops.

Power Creek Reserve playground

Next to a skate park, Timboon’s Power Creek Reserve playground is train-themed, with a train made from a tunnel, steps and a slide. There are also nearby walking tracks.

Lake Wendouree Apex Adventure Playground

Ballarat’s big playground offers slides, a wooden train, mazes and swings, surrounded by grassland, the lake and gardens, and plenty of picnic spots.

Lorne Foreshore Playground

Lorne’s nautical-themed playground, featuring a giant boat, is located right on the main street, between the beach and plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops.

Lakes Edge Adventure Playground

The Lakes Edge Adventure Playground offers equipment including a rope pyramid, climbing wall, see-saw, a rope hammock and plenty of other options for all abilities. The playground sits on a 4.2 kilometre bike and walking path around the lake.

Alexandra Gardens Playground

Situated in Ararat’s gardens, the playground offers equipment for younger and older kids in close proximity to the Gardens Lake Cafe.

Port Campbell Playground

In the centre of town, Port Campbell’s playground includes swings, climbing nets and balance boards, with barbecues, a skate park and tennis court in the same area.

Apollo Bay Foreshore Playground

Between the beach and Apollo Bay’s shops, this boat-shaped playground is an easy stop during a walk or exploring the town.
