Seventeen cats, two roosters and a horse have been taken from an Ararat property in what is alleged to be an animal cruelty offender’s fifth breach of a court order.
What happened: RSPCA Victoria inspectors attended the property on Wednesday after receiving a report from a member of the public. The animals were transported to an RSPCA shelter to be assessed by a vet.
Repeat offences: The same property was searched in February after RSPCA Inspectors discovered the resident allegedly held 13 horses and 24 cats in poor conditions.
The resident was charged with two counts of breaching a disqualification order and three counts of assaulting an RSPCA officer.
The RSPCA said inspectors have removed more than 400 animals from the person over the past decade.
Previous incidents: Charges were laid for a separate incident between January and February 2025 in which 53 cats and 10 horses were found on the property. The matter is ongoing in the County Court.
A previously imposed County Court order disqualified the resident for life from owning more than five cats.
