We went to Canberra for the Farming Forever Summit

The Brolga's in the big smoke.

⏱️ This edition of the West Vic Brolga newsletter is a five-minute read.

👋🏻 Hello from Canberra!

Zara here, bringing you your Wednesday edition of the Brolga newsletter from the nation’s capital.

I’ve been attending Farmers for Climate Action’s inaugural Farming Forever National Summit, hearing from farmers, industry leaders, scientists and policymakers.

🚜 It’s been a jam-packed couple of days listening to farmers from across the country share their stories on how they’ve made renewable energy benefit their farm, their pocket and their broader communities.

I spoke to New South Wales Black Angus farmer Robert “Macka” McKenzie, who gave me an insight into the ways soil management and selective breeding have brought down his emissions and bills.

Susan Findlay-Tickner, a grain farmer from Horsham, has hosted wind turbines on her property for more than 10 years. She spoke to me about the ways communities should benefit from living near large scale renewable energy projects.

How’s the view?

I also visited a sheep and cattle farm about 40 minutes out of Canberra that hosts 67 wind turbines. The land has been in Luke Osborne’s family since the 1880s.

Plenty of Canberra yarns coming your way, but for now, I have some handy events and live music lists to keep you busy this month.
