Renewable energy projects bring in hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars a year.

But did you know it’s not just the landowners who host these wind turbines or solar panels on their land that see the financial benefits? That’s where community benefit schemes come in.

A community benefit scheme is when a company working on a large renewable energy project gives back to the local community. 

The returns on a community benefit scheme can take multiple forms, but is often in the form of money for local developments like schools or parks, money for sports clubs, a commitment to jobs and training, or a support for local facilities and services.

The Brolga spoke to Renewable Energy Alliance National Director Andrew Bray to learn some of the best methods to get the most out of community benefit schemes.
