What's best for you? Corangamite Council to host free workshops on keeping cool
The November and December sessions will be held both online and in-person.
Corangamite Shire Council is helping residents stay comfortable during the warmer months with a series of free energy efficiency workshops.
🧊 Keeping your cool: Following its winter sessions for warming your home, council is now focusing on lowering the temperature in summer.
The workshops, run by Going Green Solutions, include three in-person sessions and two online.
Residents will learn practical, low-cost ways to reduce heat entering their homes.
🗣️ Council’s Climate Change and Emissions Reduction officer Prue Liddy said the sessions would cover a range of easy upgrades.
“Making serious improvements doesn’t have to be a big deal,” said Liddy.
🪟A window to the future: One of the workshops will focus on how simple changes to the windows in your home can help keep the heat out.
“In the secondary glazing workshops you will learn how to use a couple of low cost, DIY secondary glazing solutions, that are suitable for many kinds of windows,” said Liddy.
Secondary glazing reduces heat transfer without replacing windows, helping homes stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
Home energy efficiency assessor Lucinda Flynn will lead the sessions, sharing advice suitable for all household types.
“There’s no single ‘right’ way to improve a home,” said Flynn. “It’s about finding what works best for each household, based on your goals, preferences, and budget.”
🍳 What chews up electricity? The workshops will cover DIY tips, larger professional upgrades and understanding how appliances use energy.
Sessions will be held online on November 27 and December 2, with in-person sessions at Lismore, Terang and Port Campbell between November 29 and 30.
