The best events in western Victoria this June

There’s fun to be had right across west Vic this month - from roller discos to dachshund races - we’ve listed some of the best events below.

Events in Warrnambool

Warrnambool Roller Derby Fun Skate - open rink skate sessions

The Warrnambool Roller Derby is hosting its last Fun Skate session for the season. Anyone can head to the rink and have a go with skates available to hire. There’s also a roller disco planned for later this month with live music.

When: Fun Skate - June 1, 3pm to 5pm

Price: $10 per person plus insurance, skates and protective gear included

Warrnambool Pickleball Open

More than 450 players are set to compete in Warrnambool City Pickleball's second annual tournament across the King’s Birthday long weekend. With three internal stadiums and 22 indoor pickleball courts. Grab a bite to eat at one of the food vans.

Ross Noble - Cranium of Curiosities

Comedian Ross Noble is coming to the Warrnambool Lighthouse Theatre with his new act, Cranium of Curiosities.

Price: $60.50, or $55.50 for members

The Australian Ballet on Tour

The Australian Ballet will perform a program of classical favourites, signature works and an exclusive premiere this month.

Geraldine Hickey - Meander

Comedian Geraldine Hickey is also set to make the trip to Warrnambool this month, performing her act Meander. The 60-minute show will offer two sittings.

Paint + Sip 

Try your hand at a paint and sip event hosted by artist Stacey Williams. Participants have the choice to add a bottomless prosecco package for $40, or a charcuterie board for $20.

Warrnambool Parkrun

Stretch your legs and soak up the scenery with a free and friendly Saturday 5K. No pressure, no bibs, just fresh air and community spirit by the lake.

When: Every Saturday in June, 8am

Warrnambool Community Garden Market

A goldmine for local produce enjoyers, foodies, and curious browsers. Think seedlings, jams, fresh veggies and the kind of nice vibes and neighbourly chatter that turns strangers into mates.

Events in Koroit & Port Fairy

Port Fairy Winter Weekends

Fairy hunting, portrait painting, daschund races and a big opening party - the Port Fairy Winter Weekends event this King’s Birthday long weekend is a feast for the senses and all ages are in for a treat.

Where: All over town

When: June 6 to 9

Price: Most events are free, but there are some that require a purchased ticket ranging in price from a gold coin donation to $80, depending on what you’re doing.

Winter Solstice Swim

Feeling brave? You can prove it at the Port Fairy Winter Solstice Swim, a fundraiser for the Port Fairy Surf Life Saving Club. Jump in the chilly morning water and you’ll score yourself a free Milo and barbecue breakfast, which you can enjoy by the toasty fire drums.

Pallisters Reserve walk

The Friends of Pallisters are hosting a guided winter walk at the 250 hectare conservation property, where you can listen to a talk from a guest speaker and enjoy the beautiful scenery, with tea and coffee provided.

Koroit Community Market

Experience the friendly Irish hospitality at the Koroit Community Market, where you’ll find fresh fruit and veggies, local wine, handmade products and plenty to eat and drink.

Events in Portland 

Portland Council of Encouragement for Music and the Arts ukelele group

Attendees can have a strum and a singalong or learn the basics. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, the Portland CEMA ukelele group welcomes all.

Poetry Group

Readers, listeners and writers are invited to join the Portland CEMA poetry group on the third Sunday of every month.

After a series of come and try sessions, the Portland CEMA dance group has formed an official group and will continue regular social dance sessions with different themes each meeting.

Double Bill - Portland CEMA Theatre Group

The Portland CEMA Theatre Group is back with its mid-year play. This time, they’re treating viewers to two single-act plays in one show: The Girl Who Was a Hundred Girls and Jimmy Chancer.

Winter Solstice Fun Run

The Portland Winter Solstice Fun Run is back for 2025. The Winter Solstice Fun Run incorporates three challenging and scenic distances which you can run or walk, as well as a free 1km Kids Dash.

When: June 22, bib collection from 7am, courses close at 12:30pm

Portland Parkrun

A free weekly 5km community run that welcomes all ages, abilities, and speeds. This timed event circles the scenic Fawthrop Lagoon every Saturday morning.

Chess Club

Portland Library and Bayview College join forces to bring strategic minds together each Tuesday for Chess Club. Players of all skill levels can develop their game in this supervised after-school program. Note: Sessions pause during school holidays.

Events in Ararat 

Ararat Parkrun

The Ararat Parkrun is a free 5km walk, jog, or run organised by the community every weekend. Afterwards, you can join your fellow runners at the Gardens Lake Café.

Take Another Breath - Grampians

Take Another Breath – Grampians is a two-day celebration of resilience, renewal and the best of regional Victoria. This event is a tribute to the strength of the Pomonal community following the devastating 2024/25 summer bushfires, offering a festival of food, wine, music and more.

Events in Hamilton & Dunkeld

Dunkeld Writers Festival

The program launch for the 2025 Dunkeld Writers Festival kicks off tonight with drinks, nibbles and fascinating guest speakers, described as a line-up of “troubled souls longing to share and repair the stuff-ups of the past” through the evening’s prompt, Words I Wished I’d Said.

King’s Birthday Car Rally

Join fellow vintage car lovers for a series of activities, including guided tours and opportunities to meet the passionate owners behind these automotive treasures.

Serra Terror

Serra Terror is a two-day hiking challenge covering 71.3km in the Southern Grampians to raise money for local community groups. Done in teams, the hike is a test of stamina. Participants can register as an endurance team, where each member tackles the whole course, or as a relay team.

Price: $300 per person

Coonawarra Wine Tasting Showcase

Coonawarra returns to Hamilton this month for a three-hour wine tasting extravaganza, where you can meet the winemakers and sample over 100 different wines, and enjoy complimentary food.
